Vermont Code Camp Sept 12th!! Yay

The "VTCodeCamp" exploration committee has just gotten confirmation on a location for the very first Vermont Code Camp.

It will be on Sept 12th at the Business School of Administration at University of Vermont. The UVM Business School has been very supportive and generous in making this happen.

We'll start organizing shortly.

Thanks to fellow exploration committee members: Rob Hale, Rob Rohr, Martin Stefanov, Carl Lorentson and Laura Blood.

Great to hear! I know a bunch of people who have expressed interest in having this type of event happen locally. What sort of format are you after? Sounds like a single-big-day format? What sort of presentations are you after?

Hey Josh,

it will be one day. We have 3 rooms. Stuff revolving around programming. (e.g. doesn't have to be .NET :-))

I've been trying to do this for about 5 years. The trick was getting other people to finally be interested in helping. :-)

I have a vision for a future event which will be one technolgoy per room with the goal of having intro talks for developers to see what the other tools/languages look like.

Would there be room for open source discussion and instruction? Of particular interest might be fundamental stuff like LAMP setup, configuration / version control, DNS rewrite rules, etc. I just spent a semester teaching "Advanced Programming for the Unix Environment" at Champlain College, we should plan something.

Hi Flint,

I think you are asking about the "vision" in the future event. Let us get past our first Code Camp before we have to start thinking about planning the next one! :-)

I don't speak for Flint, but I do think he's referring to *this* event, not the future one. :) Maybe said another way, how would someone ask to get onto the schedule for the event? Or is that all still in development?

ahh - sorry I misunderstood. Absolutely we will have a way for anyone to submit talks. I love having a variety. We'll use an existing code camp website for abstract submission and event registraton. Just not set up yet. With three rooms we can probably support 15+ talks. I hope that everyone who wants to present gets a chance even if it's only 1 talk per person.

Keep an eye on my blog or #vtcodecamp on twitter for more info. It will be at least a few weeks.

Cool, looking forward to it. I'm trying to see if I could get a a java or a python talk together ... or, heck, maybe it makes sense to do jython, and get a bit of both. :)

Hi Julie -

Wish you all up there success on putting a VT CodeCamp. I did meet Rob Hale at our second CodeCamp yesterday. Let me know if I can be of any assistance or in need of sagely advice.

;-)

Best,

SB
