Incited by James Bach, Ted Neward is taking issue with the term “Best Practices“. I agree that it's important to know what the heck you are doing, experiment (how better to learn?) and not look for simple cookie cutter answers. Like anything out there in the world, a Best Practice could be misunderstood, misapplied, misused or abused. On the severe side, there are ...
PDC is getting closer and you can feel the level of excitement in the blogosphere. Once again, the event has sold out. This always amazes me -- that Microsoft could sell out events with over 10,000 attendees. This has been happening for PDC and TechEd for a few years now that I know of....
I recently received my TechEd 2005 conference DVDs which allow me to now catch up on many awesome sessions I was not able to attend while I was there. One session in particular that I just watched which is filled with great prescriptive information - not just how to , but when and why - is “DAT421: Client and Middle Tier Data Caching with SQL Server 2005” by Pablo Castro and Steve Lasker. One of the gems in there is this slide by Pablo, who is the PM on the ADO.NET team....
Microsoft's Channel 9 has announced the winners of two contests: Cod'n My Way to PDC and Blog'n My Way to PDC that rewarded airfare, hotel and conference passes.

For the most part, the public, technical face of Microsoft i

This “edition” of Keeping up with the Joneses is dedicated to Windows Vista (or what we have known for a few years as Longhorn).
Sam Gentile has been installing and playing with Vista. Talk about an early adopter! Sam is a real pit bull with new technologies. He definitely ...
Well, I should clarify that as future Microsoft Web Development tools. But this session, as blogged by Microsoft's Mikhail Arkhipov is definitely going to be on my hit list!

VirtualEarth is interesting but quite undocumented. Luckily, Neil Roodyn (that's Dr. Neil) has had a great head start with Virtual Earth and has created the Virtual Earth developer center “ViaVirtualEarth”. There are already some articles on getting started and a ...
Avonelle Lovhaug has been waiting for her Lenovo for a long time! And she's not alone. But this is not stopping people from glomming on to the tablet that will finally make the mark for TabletPCs on the end user market. According to this eweek article: “The ThinkPad Tablet has sold so fast since its introduction that Lenovo quickly ran out of stock ...
