And it is on the INETA website: www.ineta.org/newsletters

This newsletter has details about our upcoming INETA User Group Leader Summit that is in San Diego this Sunday, May 23rd at the beginning of TechEd. It also has info about the BOFs.

Plus lots of news about some of our member groups, the recent APAC (Asia Pacific Region) summit, DevSource’s utility contest with a serious prize, PAG’s new design guidelines and lots more.

Don’t miss the interview with INETA Speaker G. Andrew Duthie!!

We are really lucky to have Sheri Nawrocki designing the newsletter. Isn’t it bee-yoo-tee-ful?

more TabletPC stuff on Channel 9

So you have already seen Peter Loforte showing off the cool UI stuff in Lonestar right?

Well I was just checking out Channel 9 to link to that and saw all of thsi new stuff popped on there:

Think about that. “Mobile“ used to mean you can take it with  you. Pack it up, bring it somewhere else and then unpack it and sit down and use it. But “mobile“ with a laptop means (this is where you need to picture a doctor doing their rounds with a clipboard) you can walk around and use it.

Also, check out Ward Cunningham on how he came up with the idea for a wiki and Brad Abrams on future innovations in software. (I haven’t checked these two out yet…)

some advance reading/viewing for the TechEd TabletPC BOF and guess who’s coming?

The TabletPC BOF that I am leading on Tuesday at 6:30 pm is about Design Considerations. I wrote a lot about this a while back and Peter Rysavy encapsulated that so nicely in this post here if you want to get some ideas about what some of my own experiences were. Much of this will change with Lonestar which I’m really excited about.

Also, if you have any interest in this topic, go check out the 10 minute Channel 9 video of Peter Loforte showing some really cool U.I. stuff on a tablet with Lonestar (aka TabletPC 2005 something or other)

I had an email from Arin Goldberg today who says he will bring a bunch of TabletPC Team folks to the BOF armed with a boat load of tablets to play with. Whippee. (Okay Arin, now you can’t bag out on this!!! heh heh heh)

Teched BOF schedule changes

Thanks to Denise Smith for getting these changes not only onto the CommNet site for TechEd but reprinting the signs that go outside the rooms!

I have done a little juggling thanks to Chris Reed who switched his session slot with one of mine.

New date/time

Tablet PC Design Considerations  Tuesday  6:30 pm

Women who Code   Wednesday 7pm (this will now be AFTER the Women in I.T. luncheon)

Authenticating and Authorizing Web Users (led by Chris Reed)  Wednesday 8pm

Tablet PC Events this week (today in NYC!!)

Copied/Pasted directly from Tabula PC (thanks Peter…)

Tablet PC Developer tour dates:

  • New York and Philadelphia: Tuesday, May 18
  • Newark, NJ and Santa Clara, CA: Wednesday, May 19

The Mobility Road Show also has somewhat "matching dates" this week:

  • New York: May 18 and May 19
  • Philadelphia: May 18
  • San Jose, CA: May 19

The mobility road show is the one for IT folks and decision makers, showing them how mobile computing can make your staff members more productive. The real gems are that all attendees will get a free copy of Office 2003 Professional, a trial version of OneNote, and one Toshiba M205 tablet will be given away at each event. Sounds like a great chance for freebies, so make sure to look for your nearest event location.

The Tablet PC Campus Demo Tour should be making the following stops this week:

  • Stanford University: May 18
  • University of Delaware: May 18
  • Georgia State University: May 18
  • Kansas State University: May 18
  • University of Massachusetts – Boston: May 18
  • University of California – Berkeley: May 20
  • North Virginia Community College: May 20
  • University of South Florida: May 21
  • University of Nebraska: May 21

The campus tour also offers a chance to win one of 50 Tablet PCs. Dates, times, and locations for all these events may be totally inaccurate, but hopefully they are actually correct these days. Eyewitness accounts and impressions are always welcome!

SQL Server Tips & Tricks for Developers

The July issue of Visual Studio Magazine features this article, SQL Server Tips & Tricks, by Roman Rehak. Roman is one of our local heros, and as track chair for PASS, a popular PASS speaker, frequent author of SQL related articles in VSM, track chair for DevTeach and a speaker there as well AND one of the co-founders of the local SQL Server SIG..and a blogger on SQLJunkies – we certainly can’t keep him a secret around here any more.

The article pulls together tips & tricks from some of Roman’s awesome conference sessions. As a developer who gets stuck doing most of my own database administration and all database related coding that my applications need, this stuff is priceless.

Roman will also be at TechEd this year along with a few of my other local friends.
