Will my husband listen to my dotnetrocks show?

Anyone want to place bets? He’s not a geek by the way. In fact, he has a poster from Milwaukee Tools that says “nobody ever got a splinter building a website” and another one that says “people that don’t sit at a desk all day live longer.” You know what they say, opposites attract! 🙂

7:30 pm est (even though the website says 9-11) http://www.franklins.net/calldotnetrocks/

Dark Days Ahead

One of the problems with it getting dark early (besides that I still don’t get up until 7am) is that I have to walk the dogs way before 5pm which really breaks up my work flow. It’s 4:05 and already really dull out and looking like it’s going to be dark soon anyway. Poor doggies. Add to this the many feet of snow we will have on the ground in a month or so and not only does their day get shorter, but their world shrinks. They can’t get through the deep snow, so whatever paths we can create with the snowblower plow around the yard and then the road are basically all they have for walking all winter.

Even stomping out trails with our snowshoes doesn’t pack it down enough for them not to post hole through it, which hurst their little leggies. (I’m talking about one 10 year old and one 11 year old Newfoundland – so that’s really a big worry.)

Why can’t winter have gloroius snow only where you want it and still at least be sunny until 9pm? 🙂

.NET Community and political divide

I can see it brewing already. One of the interesting things about our community is that it has brought a lot of people together who have in common our absolute passion for programming and technology which is an incredible thing as it crosses every divide I can think of.

However, I think that sadly, the politics of the u.s. is right now driving a huge wedge between people and as many (like myself) can no longer hold their tongues about their feelings, I worry about the animosity that it could create between us. I know that I have many strong and respectful relationships with people that have different political views than myself and I have no worries about those relationships. It’s the people that we don’t know well, as we hold up our political badges and that becomes our key identifier.

We’ll probably get past it after a few weeks and get back to our programming rants and raves but for now, be careful about who you target with your criticism – let’s not get personal.

wow – programmers with boobs

I’m sorry – is it just me? This is on the windows forms home page. “Just in case you didn’t know that there are chicks that write code, we wanted to bring your attention to this gorgeous woman’s chest.”

Then there’s that other picture we’ve seen a lot of that really cool looking chick in the green shirt. Something about that picture is all about her chest also. I double checked with a number of people when we first saw that photo over and over again during the MVP Summit and they all conferred that it was hard to see the rest of the photo. Something about her boobs – like she wasn’t wearing a bra or something – just totally drew your eyes (and mine – totally heterosexual woman, here) right to her chest.

I dunno – I just figure there’s got to be a happy medium here somewhere.

Radio Dedication?

So Rich (hubby) called me to say that the local classic rock/Howard Stern station, played some Rolling Stones song today dedicated to Julie Lerman at the Data Farm. He can’t remember what the song was but thought maybe it was “Let it Bleed”.

Fess up.
